Bordered by Cape Fear to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, New Hanover County is primarily in a maritime region and benefits greatly from its vibrant tourism industry resulting from being home to many of the state’s most popular beach communities. Within the county you’ll find Kure Beach, Wrightsville Beach, and Carolina Beach, to name a few, and you will also find the Fort Fisher State Historic Site and the North Carolina Aquarium. Other noteworthy communities in the county include Seabreeze and Castle Hayne. This spectacular county is also home to a long list of outstanding cultural institutions including Thalian Hall, the Wilmington Children’s Museum, the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History, Cape Fear Museum and Cape fear Shakespeare. Furthermore, the county hosts numerous exciting and entertaining events each year including the Festival of Trees, North Carolina Azalea Festival, Countdown on Cape Fear, Old Wilmington by Candlelight, and the Cape Fear Marlin Tournament in Wrightsville Beach.
